Having rough, dry hands is no fun. It's especially embarrassing for women who are considered the 'softer, gentler' gender.

Individuals who suffer from rough dry hands don't have to live with the condition. There is an easy, inexpensive way to soften dry, rough hands. The best part about this remedy is that the ingredients are natural and safe to use. Most people have the ingredients sitting in their kitchen cabinets.

Busy mom especially who don't have the time to partake in an extensive hand softening ritual can create the hand softening mixture in a couple of minutes and begin the hand softening process shortly thereafter. Here's the no fuss, no muss way to soften rough dry hands.

Ingredients

  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Sea salt
  • Liquid hand soap

Creating the Hand Softening Scrub

  1. In a small container line the bottom of the container with a layer of sea salt. Sea salt contains natural minerals that regular table salt does not have. However, if there is no sea salt in the kitchen cupboard, table salt will also work.
  2. Pour the extra virgin olive oil over the sea salt. Pour just enough to create a paste like consistency. This recipe is very forgiving so if too much oil was added; remedy the situation by adding additional salt. For individuals with a mild case of rough hands, a thinner, more liquid consistency will work just fine.
  3. Add a squirt or two of liquid hand soap. The soap is needed because it makes it easier to rinse the mixture off after the hand washing process is completed (it also adds a nice fragrance depending on the soap used). The soap can be antibacterial, homemade hand soap or just plain old run of the mill liquid hand soap. Just one or two squirts will do.
  4. Mix the ingredients thoroughly.

Quick Steps to Softening Rough Hands

Wet hands with warm water, then apply the hand scrub mixture. Use about a half teaspoon (or two finger scoops) of the scrub and rub it all over the front and back of your hands. Start with the palms of the hands and make sure to get in between the fingers (especially between the thumb and forefinger). After rubbing the mixture onto the front of the hand, gently massage the back of the hand. Generally the back of the hand is softer than the front so the same amount of pressure should not be applied for both back and front of the hand.

Once the mixture has been fully applied to hands, rinse it off warm water (You will notice a difference immediately while rinsing with warm water).

Pat hands dry and marvel at the difference. For additional softening and moisturizing, apply hand lotion.

Hand Scrub Frequency

The frequency is a matter of personal need. For folks suffering with very dry hands, using the scrub a couple of times a day initially may be required until the hands have reached the desired softness (this also works very well on rough feet too).
