PlatinumTel has a prepaid plan designed especially for the Android smartphone. As with most prepaid smartphone plans, if you wish to use an Android smartphone, you must sigh up with PlatinumTel's monthly billing plan.
Smartphones cannot be used with a pay as you go plan.
Prepaid Cell Phone Billing Options
Prepaid cell phone providers usually offer at least two types of billing plans and PlatinumTel is no different. They offer the pay-as-you-go plan which requires you to purchase airtime on an as needed basis. As long as you have air time on your account and your phone is activated, you are able to use your wireless phone. This plan works best for the occasional phone user.
The other type of billing plan is the monthly plan. The monthly billing plan is still a no contract plan, but you are charged a set amount each month for a specific amount of talk and text time. The no contract monthly billing plan usually works better for someone who uses their phone frequently.
Android Smartphone Features
If you own an Android cell phone, you know that this phone is capable of more than just talking and texting. To fully utilize this smartphone, you need to have Internet access.
With its high-tech features as web browsing, sending receiving e-mails and utilizing a wide array of apps for the Android, you need to have a wireless service provider that supports web data transmission.
PlatinumTel Unlimited Talk and Text Plan
To support the Android's features, PlatinumTel offers an unlimited talk and text plan. The plan also comes with the ability to transmit data across the Internet. There are two prepaid talk and text plans. The least expensive plan costs $60 a month and provides unlimited talk and text time in addition to providing 200 MB of data transmission per month.
If 200 MB of data transmission is not enough to support your Android usage, PlatinumTel also has a $70 per month plan which offers the same unlimited text and talk time but it provides 1 GB per month of data transmission.
Android 3G Phone Selection
In order to use that data transmission services, you must purchase a 3G compatible phone. While PlatinumTel does offer the 3G service, their phone selection is rather slim. As of this writing the only Android 3G compatible phone PlatinumTel offers is the Sanyo Zio (PLS-8600).
It's best to shop around for the right Android phone that will fit your talking/texting/3G needs before purchasing this phone and utilizing the PlatinumTel service. Although there is no contract with the PlatinumTel cell phone plan, why waste time purchasing a phone that might not meet your needs?
In an earlier review (Does PlatinumTel Really Have the Cheapest Prepaid Cell Phone Rate) , we established that PlatinumTel does provide a low-cost prepaid cell phone service for non 3G phones. Its Smartphone unlimited service plan, however, has limited phone options and is more expensive than some other prepaid Smartphone plans.
As always, check out the competition before signing with a PlatinumTel smarpthone plan.
